If you want people to flock to your blog or Google Plus post, then you must offer value-based content that will educate, inspire or motivate your readers to want more.

Here is a breakdown of his 9 steps which he has found will help increase your traffic and engagement for Google Plus posts:

1. Give an Interesting Story

Be creative… find topics that people can relate or respond to. One good way you can do this is to go to Google Plus groups within your niche and see what types of content others are responding to.

2. Create Convincing Post Titles

Learning ways to generate powerful headlines that will stop the reader in their tracks is what is required. The headline must be written well enough to grab their attention, arouse curiosity and trigger an emotional response that will lead them deeper into your content.

3. Format Your Content

When you bold or italicize your text, you are making a statement saying, “stop your scanning and look here, this is important enough for you to read.”

People are too impatient now days to read each and every word… bold or italicizing certain phrases, words or sentences within your content will make your most important information stand out.

NOTE: Search engines also use the bold and italicizing element as a factor in their algorithm.

4. Post Meaningful Content

It is a good idea to write a brief description about the article that you are wanting people to engagement in. Writing a few compelling sentences describing exactly what the given page has to offer will create higher user click-throughs.

5. Include an Image

It has been shown that people engage and share more often when a picture is attached to their content.

Mervik states that “having an image in your post doubles your post’s visibility.

6. ALWAYS Include a Link

Include a link… need I say more? If you don’t include a link, how are people supposed to see your writing brilliance?

7. Give Credit to Other Users

I find that responding to comments help generate more buzz for the article itself. As Mervik states in his infographic, “it is good to mention the names of other Google Plus users for their contribution within your posts.

8. Include Hashtags(#)

It is strongly recommended to use hashtags within your post… this will bring others to your Google+ article if they happen to click on a hashtag from another person’s post.

NOTE: After your content, start typing with a # then continue to add a keyword that represents your content directly after the # (no spaces) and a drop-down window will appear with a selection of words that will attach a hashtag. Click on a word that represents your post and your hashtag-ed word will appear.

9. Be Engaging and Responsive

It is never a good idea to post and then leave. Check back frequently to see if anybody has commented on your post. If a person has commented, engage with them, thank the person for stopping by and commenting.

Engaging with the person shows that you they are noticed and appreciated. This will bring greater activity to your future posts.

  4. I liked the points. I have a question.
    I use g+ using hootsuite, so while I am scheduling my posts I like to give credits to the associate g+ profile that I can’t do from hootsuite.
    Is there any way around? ?

      Hi Abdur,

      I apologize, but I am not 100% sure what you are asking me, but if I personally needed to give credit to somebody, I would just copy and paste the link to their Google+ profile wherever I am wanting to show my appreciation.

      I am not familiar with Hootsuite, so if the question is along those lines, I wouldn’t know.

  5. Google Plus is give a tough competition to Facebook. Many of us are now use the Google for professional and Marketing purpose as it have a huge amount of user. I post on Google but not like as you describe in post. From now I start post with points that you pointing out in post. Thanks John for this wonderful.

      I believe that Google+ may someday pass Facebook for quantity of users… Google+ is already on that path with over 540 millions active users and counting, and they have only been on line a little over 2 1/2 years with their launch date of June 28th 2011.

    You bring up some good points about Google plus. This is one social media platform that I am starting to use more. No longer are we in the push marketing era. It’s all about engaging and interacting with your customers and your audience. A lot of big companies are starting to hop on social media to handle their customer service needs and allowing their customers to engage. It has a very warm feeling when you know there’s a human on the other side that is engaging with you via social media. To be honest, I think it’s pretty darn cool! Thanks for the great post John!
